Born at Laramba on Napperby Station, Isobel is the younger daughter of Warlpiri/Anmatyerre tribesman Jimmy Long Tjangala. Isobel’s mother Gloria was an Arrente woman from Hermannsburg. Isobel's family moved to Papunya when she was eight. Isobel is currently on the board of the community organisation Waltja that looks after Aboriginal families in desert communities around Alice Springs, is a Director of Papunya Tjupi Arts and also a board member for DesArt. Isobel is a leader in the women’s song and dance for this region and a powerful member of the Papunya community. She paints for the future of her culture and for her family.
